I am a woman of age, who over years of self teaching and compromised health, has learned much in the way of science, history, and politics. In my middle age I had a child which forced a career change and the universe granted me a chance to go back to college. I majored in English Literature and Creative Writing, and found inspiration from science. My Bachelor’s degree taught me how to read, understand, and synthesize. I am not a doctor, a licensed nutritionist, or dietary consultant. I’m not a scientist, a sociologist, a psychologist or any other “ist”, though I’m pretty sure I’m a feminist, and forced to be “political” by default. I read too much and think too much, and know how to read between the party lines and cry foul when the truth is out there. Why, yes, I am anti-authoritarian.
I’ve been an Oregonian all my life, born in the old original St. Vincent’s Hospital in the west hills of Portland, Oregon. Oregonian, born and bred, I’m also a Libra. I can’t walk with an umbrella, it makes me too off-balanced.
I live in a semi-rural Pacific Northwest university town, and support a disabled husband and an adult son who is learning how to launch into the world. Semi retired now, I am writing my way toward retirement, when I plan to be very busy, reading, writing, gardening, and sharing knowledge. Social injustice makes me cranky and I’m willing to tell you all about it. I also have ideas to help make our life on this precious planet more abundant.
I honor the ways of my ancestors, while warily embracing the new world as it comes along. I am searching for better health and a healthier community. I find health encompasses the body, the intellect, and the soul as I read widely across many disciplines and genres. I read primary sources and peer-reviewed science. I reserve the right to talk about any topic.
I love learning, reading, writing, real food, babies, children, young people, elders, and anybody interesting to talk with or willing to share stories, the beach, and though it’s always a mess, my home.
